Аудио к заданию:
− Hello!
− Hi, Rachel! It’s me − Steve.
− Oh, hi, Steve!
− I came round yesterday, but your brother said you were out.
− Yes, I went to the theatre with my mum.
− Was it interesting? Was it a classical play or a comedy?
− You won’t believe it but it was a detective story written by a contemporary American writer.
− A modern detective story on the stage? I can’t imagine it.
− Yes, their performance really differs from the performances we are used to. The action takes place on board a spaceship which is travelling through the galaxy. The seven members of their space crew get together in the captain room. They were invited because somebody had changed the route of the spaceship. The captain, who was a policeman on Earth, wants to find out the truth. He listens to astronauts’’ versions of this story and then starts to ask the audience in the theatre different questions like «What was Jane doing when Tim came in?», «Where was Tim standing when the mobile phone rang?», «Why was Jane crying when the man went out?» and a lot of other questions.
− He asked the audience, the people in the theatre, didn’t he? It was a smart decision by the producer to involve the audience. And did the people give any answers?
− Yes, the people answered enthusiastically. I was surprised to find out that they remembered the facts and small details.
− Did the captain find the criminal?
− No, it was not down that way. After the questions and answers it became clear that any of the astronauts could change the route of the ship. So, the captain asked the audience to vote. They had to applaud every astronaut on the stage. The loudest applause meant that the astronaut had changed the route. Then, we had the astronaut’s story.
− Interesting! The audience solves the criminal case. I can’t say that’s fair.
− I agree with you. But it’s just a performance. By the way, every evening the audience chooses different astronauts.
− I think I should go and see this open ending performance myself.
− It’s really worth seeing. What did you want yesterday? Why did you come?
− I need a book you promised to lend me. You said there’s lots of information there which I could use for my project.
− Oh, yes, sorry, I forgot. In an hour I’m getting to the fitness centre. I can take the book with me and we can meet somewhere on the way there.
− Good idea! Let’s meet in the fitness centre. I was planning to go to the swimming pool anyway. So, I’ll combine business with pleasure.
− OK, see you in the fitness centre then. I’ll bring you the book.
− Thanks, bye.
− Bye.
