Аудио к заданию:
− Wow! You’ve got a huge library.
− My family is especially proud of it. My grandfather started it and you can see the result. There are about three thousand books here.
− You know, to me it looks like a museum, not like someone’s home.
− All my friends say that, but to me it’s just a part of life. I’ve got used to reading books here. It’s quiet and it has an atmosphere. You know what I’m talking about.
− I’m afraid I don’t. I have to confess that I don’t read very much.
− Just like most of my friends. It’s OK. I understand. There’re lots of reasons why people read less today.
− Yes, I simply cannot find time for it. We have to do so much at school, and frankly speaking I prefer watching films to reading books.
− I very seldom watch anything on TV. And how can you compare films and books? It’s like watching a sports game on TV and playing it yourself. I would never prefer watching to playing. Would you?
− No, I certainly wouldn’t. You know how much I enjoy sports. I’d only agree to stop playing a game of sport in order to start another.
− Oh, yes. Sport is my favourite pastime, too, along with reading. And my grandfather played sports very well. There’s a newspaper here with an article about his football team. Have a look! He is here, the second from the right.
− Yes, I see.
− The photo was taken when he was at university. Look, this fellow, next to my granddad, became a prominent writer, but I can’t remember his name.
− Did he?
− Yes, there must be one or two of his books in our library.
− And your granddad? Did he write, too?
− Yes, but not as an author, as a journalist. He worked for different newspapers and magazines. He quit writing any recently because of his eye problem.
− I’m sorry to hear that.
− Oh, it’s OK. You know, you can borrow a couple of books from our library if you like. Would you like to choose anything?
− OK, thanks, my bag is heavy already without any extra books, but it would be great if you could give me that newspaper for a while.
− With the article about granddad’s university team? Why?
− There’s a person there who seems very familiar to me, the fellow in the centre. The one who is holding the ball looks exactly like my mum’s cousin in our family album. I want to compare the photos.
− Ha! It would be fun to find out that our families knew each other.
− It’s only «would».
