Speaker A:
I think it’s not easy to be a teenager and that school life can be rather difficult. It’s good when you have someone to discuss all your problems with. Unfortunately, my parents are very busy with their work and we never talk about my school problems, except for my test grades. My older sister lives in another city and thinks all my problems are nothing in comparison with hers. We don’t talk much either.
Speaker B:
My parents give me pocket money every Monday. It’s fine but I want to feel more adult and more independent. I want to earn some of my pocket money myself. I love animals and I know how to take care of them. My plan is to help pet owners look after their pets. Some people, for example, have no time to walk their dogs. I can do it. Or I can help people to take care of their aquariums as I know how to clean and keep aquarium tidy.
Speaker C:
My friends often talk about their wish to be independent from their parents. I don’t think it’s a realistic idea. We can’t be independent yet because our parents support us in all spheres of life. And there’s nothing wrong with that. They help us realize our ambitions now and in the future we’ll be helping our children to realize theirs. It’s what family exists for, isn’t it?
Speaker D:
Our parents and teacher tell us we need to be ambitious to succeed in life but I have to confess that I’m lazy and I never make plans, and I feel very happy with the way I am. I don’t know what I’m going to do in the future. All I want is to have a quiet life without any problems, worries.

I come from a family of engineers. Both my mum and dad work for a construction company and because of that we have to travel more often than most people do. I don’t really like it as I have to change schools every time we move to a new place. But I understand how much their work means to my parents, and I don’t want to cause any conflict in the family. I hope I will be as keen on my work in the future as they are. Anyway we moved again recently and I’m now quite happy with my new school here. In general it’s OK. There’s no bullying here and there are lots of facilities like a very good canteen and a convenient school bus that picks me up every day.
What I don’t like is a lack of interest. My classmates are very indifferent to their own future. The other pupils don’t care about their grades and don’t want to make any effort to improve their academic performance. It feels kind of disappointing and discouraging.
